At the top of your page you have . You cannot put this
mark-up before the doctype statement, it belongs in the (if anywhere,
given the rest of your code). Take it out and your document should begin to
"work".

Also, try using the Firefox Web Developer toolbar - then you can check and
make adjustments on the fly! Validate your HTML and CSS regularly.
